A member of the Cougar Marching Band is expected to fulfill the following requirements of the University and BYU Bands.  Remembering the guidelines for “honesty” implicit in the BYU Honor Code, do not accept the agreement if you do not intend to fulfill the following responsibilities.  Successful participation in the BYU Marching Band during the fall semester. This includes:

  1. Participation in pre-season Band Camp Aug. 24 –29
    • Section/Squad Leaders training begins Aug. 21
    • BLC training begins Aug. 22
    • Percussion and Color Guard  begin Aug. 22
    • Freshman Fireside at 6:00 pm Sunday, Aug. 23
  2. Music memorization
  3. Attendance at all regularly scheduled rehearsals and performances (see football schedule here)
  4. Properly representing the band and university through exemplary conduct and performance
  5. Participation in a probable post-season bowl game.
    • Note: although the costs of the bowl game participation will be covered by the bowl bid, these performances will involve student time during at least part of the Christmas vacation – usually between Dec. 11 and Jan. 2.
  6. Registration for and completion of at least 12 hours of credit for undergraduates and 8.5 for graduate students during both the fall and winter semesters. These hours will include Music 323R (Marching Band) for fall semester.
    • Music majors should remember that this class does not fulfill the major ensemble requirement for each semester as a music major.
  7. Fulfill any additional responsibilities of leadership as required for your position.
