Rocky Mountain Invitation is moving to a full day, regional competition on Saturday, October 14th, 2023! Please make arrangements now if you wish to attend due to the change and the logistics that will be required.
Brigham Young University is proud to present the 45th annual Rocky Mountain Invitational competition! The Rocky Mountain Invitational provides participating marching bands with quality feedback from a panel of nationally esteemed judges in the form of educational evaluation rubrics, as well as the opportunity to perform in the picturesque LaVell Edwards Stadium!
General Information
- DATE: Saturday, October 14th, 2023
- LOCATION: LaVell Edwards Stadium on the campus of Brigham Young University
- APPLICATION & FEE: $350
- Registration fee can be paid online using Credit Card
- Payments by check will need to be coordinated with the Band Office
- ACCEPTANCE POLICY: All necessary forms must be submitted with full payment by SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2023 in order to be accepted and fully registered for the Rocky Mountain Invitational.
2023 Rocky Mountain Registration
PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO REGISTRATION
1) Initial Registration (Mar-Aug 1st)
- The registration form is due by AUGUST 15th, 2023.
- The registration form requires director info, school classification, and contact information
- Registration Fee is payable in the form of Credit Card, Purchase Order, or Check (Please make checks out to: BYU Bands and mail to School of Music, ATTN: BYU Band 3134 Music Building, Provo, UT 84602)
2) Next Steps (Aug-Sept 1st)
- The final information sheet will be sent in August and requires band, show, travel, and program information.
- Bands must also submit the Authorized Educational Visit form and Video Release form at this time
- The Final Information Sheet, and other forms will be required by SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2023.
- Bands that wish to withdraw from the competition must do so before September 1st, 2023. These bands will receive a refund for their deposit. Bands that withdraw from competition past September 1st, 2023 will lose their deposit.
3) Logistics
- Rocky Mountain Invitational will be split into two blocks of performances in the morning and evening based on enrollment.
- The stadium and parking lots will be cleared in between blocks and separate tickets will be required for the morning and evening performances.
- *Note: bands that perform in the morning will be required to clear the parking lot and will not be allowed to leave equipment trucks in the parking lot in order to watch afternoon bands perform due to space allotments.
4) Acceptance Details
- Acceptances will be processed in the order received, according to the timestamp, with a confirmed subsequent payment.
- Failure to submit all information sheets and full payment by September 1st, 2023 will result in the loss of your deposit and you will forfeit your place in the competition.

Bag Policy
LaVell Edwards Stadium has adopted a NO bag policy. Small clutch bags, no larger than 5” x 8” x 1” , with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the stadium.
The following items are permitted after inspection:
- Medically necessary items (including diaper bags) will be permitted after inspection. One bag per person.
Video and Photo Policy
Due to copyright restrictions, ONLY small, nonprofessional, single frame “point and shoot” and digital cameras are allowed in the venue. Family, friends, and fans, may take still photos of Rocky Mountain Events for personal use only. Please be considerate of the performers and the fans seated around you.
All forms of video and motion picture cameras and sound recording devices are STRICTLY PROHIBITED due to copyright restriction.
Tripods and other equipment that may obstruct the view or path of travel of others in the stands are also NOT ALLOWED.
