Brigham Young University and BYU Bands is committed to the health and safety of our students, staff, and the community. Concerns related to COVID-19 brought drastic changes to universities across the United States. To address any questions you may have about Cougar Marching Band auditions, please read through the information below.
Where do auditions take place?
BYU Marching Band auditions are social distancing friendly. All parts of the audition process are completed online (application form, director’s recommendation, and audition recording). All sections, except drumline and color guard, can submit an audio recording online. Drumline and color guard must submit a video recording.
Do I need to come to BYU campus during the spring or summer for preseason band camp?
The marching band season begins one week before the fall semester with a preseason band camp. Members are not required to come to campus before that time.
I returned early from a mission and am interested in auditioning. Is it too late?
It’s not too late! Auditions are accepted from April 15 – May 1. We continue to accept auditions after that date and until the band is completely staffed. If the band is completely staffed, you may still audition and we will place you on a waiting list. It is not uncommon for accepted members to decline their membership during the summer.
